New and improved CareLink™ Personal upload software for easier use
We understand how important seeing your diabetes data is and how many of you rely on CareLinkTM Personal software. We’ve also heard loud and clear how frustrating of an experience it’s been to upload that data. Today, we’re excited to announce that we have new upload software that’s easy to set-up and allows you to see your information without Java or special browser settings!!
Uploading the new software is easy and you can find the link to do so on our CareLinkTM Personal website. We also created a short tutorial on how to complete the install here and once installed you can also learn more about uploading your information here.
Today, we’ve asked Lori Cruit, who lives with type 1 diabetes, is a Certified Pump Trainer for Medtronic, Registered Nurse and Moderator to a MiniMedTM 670G system Facebook group, to share her experience testing out the new system.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 10 years old. Over the past 45 years I’ve seen a lot of technology developed to help us deal with our diabetes – urine tests, hospital glucose meters, home glucose meters, pumps, CGMs – all amazing things to help us manage diabetes and thus manage our lives better.
Under all of this, however has been the need to keep track of our glucose testing. When CareLinkTM Personal software came along I was relieved. Finally, something to help download all that information from the pump so that I didn’t have to do it and risk leaving something out. The only downside is that the first programs available didn’t always upload your pump and meter smoothly. A lot of it depended on which computer system you had, your browser, and a host of other technical specs. Not being the most computer savvy, I often felt frustrated when it came time to upload my pump and glucose meter for an upcoming appointment with my Endo.
Today, a new program is being introduced.
- A new simplified uploading experience for CareLinkTM Personal software that no longer requires Java.
- The steps for installing the uploader and uploading the pump and meter are outlined in clear, easy steps with illustrations for what you should see on your computer screen each step of the way.
- Once uploaded, the data can be printed out in various reports so that you and your trainer, endo or diabetes team can look at your results and give you the guidance you need to better manage your diabetes.
Now, I look forward to uploading my pump and meter to the CareLinkTM Personal software, and seamlessly pulling the reports I need. I can even do a quick report just for myself in between doctor visits so I can see how I’m doing on a weekly or monthly basis. Diabetes is complicated enough - it’s good to have the new CareLinkTM Personal software to make management that much easier.
As we move forward, we’ll continue to work on enhancement and performance improvements, specifically around Mac and with the MiniMedTM 530G insulin pump and other older model insulin pumps. Stay tuned for additional improvements.
Important Safety Information
The Medtronic MiniMed™ 670G system is intended for continuous delivery of basal insulin (at user selectable rates) and administration of insulin boluses (in user selectable amounts) for the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus in persons, fourteen years of age and older, requiring insulin as well as for the continuous monitoring and trending of glucose levels in the fluid under the skin. The MiniMed™ 670G system includes SmartGuard™ technology, which can be programmed to automatically adjust delivery of basal insulin based on Continuous Glucose Monitor sensor glucose values, and can suspend delivery of insulin when the sensor glucose value falls below or is predicted to fall below predefined threshold values. The system requires a prescription.
The Guardian™ Sensor (3) glucose values are not intended to be used directly for making therapy adjustments, but rather to provide an indication of when a fingerstick may be required. A confirmatory finger stick test via the CONTOUR®NEXT LINK 2.4 blood glucose meter is required prior to making adjustments to diabetes therapy. All therapy adjustments should be based on measurements obtained using the CONTOUR®NEXT LINK 2.4 blood glucose meter and not on values provided by the Guardian™ Sensor (3). Always check the pump display to ensure the glucose result shown agrees with the glucose results shown on the CONTOUR®NEXT LINK 2.4 blood glucose meter. Do not calibrate your CGM device or calculate a bolus using a blood glucose meter result taken from an Alternative Site (palm) or from a control solution test. It is also not recommended to calibrate your CGM device when sensor or blood glucose values are changing rapidly, e.g., following a meal or physical exercise. If a control solution test is out of range, please note that the result may be transmitted to your pump when in the “Always” send mode.
WARNING: Medtronic performed an evaluation of the MiniMed™ 670G system and determined that it may not be safe for use in children under the age of 7 because of the way that the system is designed and the daily insulin requirements. Therefore this device should not be used in anyone under the age of 7 years old. This device should also not be used in patients who require less than a total daily insulin dose of 8 units per day because the device requires a minimum of 8 units per day to operate safely. |
