Announcing the new and improved Guardian Connect CGM system!
The GuardianTM Connect system is a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), for people on multiple daily injections, that tracks glucose levels day and night and alerts of highs or lows before they happen. We’re excited to announce FDA approval for a new version of the GuardianTM Connect system! Available summer 2020, this new version includes adjustable alert volumes, day and nighttime personalized alerts, as well as expanded access to Android™ mobile device users.
What’s new with the GuardianTM Connect system?
Max Volume at Night
We understand the importance of knowing before sugars go low or high, particularly at night. But we also understand the desire to personalize if and how you are woken up at night.
The GuardianTM Connect system now has a “Max Volume at Night” feature, which allows for even more alert personalization. Now you can choose how loud your alerts are. Nighttime low and high glucose alerts will only sound as loud as you tell them to.
Adjustable Volume and Mute Alerts
The GuardianTM Connect system already has predictive alerts that can be customized to alert you 10–60 minutes in advance of a high or low.
The new version — expected summer 2020 — will allow you to have even more control over when and how you receive these alerts. Customers using the GuardianTM Connect CGM will have the ability to adjust their alert volumes as needed or mute audible alerts all together when it’s just not the right time for a loud alarm. (Don’t worry. If your sugar level drops to 55 mg/dL, your system will alert you of an “urgent low sensor glucose alert” with sound or vibration.)
Android Compatibility
We’re also excited to announce the approval of the GuardianTM Connect system for Android! Expanding access to Android mobile device users has been one of our top priorities. The GuardianTM Connect CGM will be available on Samsung, LG, and Google smartphones this summer as well.

The GuardianTM Connect system automatically uploads your data to the CareLinkTM personal software hands free — no wires required.
You can also share your glucose alerts with loved ones with the Care Partner feature in the GuardianTM Connect app. We first launched the Guardian Connect system in the US for iOS devices in 2018. We’re excited to bring you an even smarter CGM and can’t wait to hear what you think!

And for Guardian 3? Please! :-)
We hear you, Sofia. Currently, this update only applies to our CGM only system, the Guardian Connect. We are working on remote monitoring for our pump systems and will update our community as soon as we can.
Yeah, but have the sensors improved any? It would tell me I was under 40 and alarm when my blood sugar was 320. It was NEVER accurate. Sensors CONSTANTLY failed. I had to test 4-6 times a day anyway, so it wasn’t saving me any time. It was a HUGE hassle. Unless your sensors have gotten a lot better, I won’t bother with it.
Hello. I've asked several people and have not gotten a response. How do you turn off the Guardian app without turning off the phone? Thank you.
Hi, Don. The app can be closed similar to how you close other apps on your smart device. If you're trying to quiet notifications, you can update this in your settings. If you have any questions, please give our team a call at 800.646.4633 opt.#1.
Is the Guardian system now approved for Medicare patients?
I upgraded a few years ago. Now on Medicare, the system is unavailable without significant monthly cost.
Hi, Hugh. We continue to work with both the FDA and Medicare to update our labeling to ensure broader access to our CGM. In the meantime, we do offer financial assistant options. If you'd like to learn more, please give our dedicated team a call at 800.646.4633 option #4.
If you have the Medtronic Mini Med insulin Pump and an Apple iPhone 8’s can you use this CGM?? Is there CGM for me??? Need one!!!!Mimni Med Paradigm is my pump
Hi, Barbara. Currently, our pump systems aren't compatible with our apps, but we are working on bringing this feature to our pump users. Our Guardian Connect is CGM only, for those currently not on our pump therapy.
Yes!
So, I have been trying to connect my cgm to the app (I have Iphone). It doesn’t seem to connect and it hasn’t been updated in a year. It would be really helpful if you could let me know.
Hi, Brian. Are you currently using the Guardian Connect CGM only device or does your CGM speak with your pump? Please keep in mind, our apps are only compatible with Guardian Connect which doesn't speak with our pumps; it's intended for those currently not on pump therapy. If you're only using only our CGM and can't connect, please call our technical support team at 800.646.4633 option #1 and they'll be happy to help.
The Guardian has been FDA approved and is supposed to be available this summer. Well, it IS this summer, so can we get a more specific time frame? I bought a used iPhone6 just so I could use the CGM Guardian app, but my actual phone is an Android. Thanks!
Don, we don't have a specific date to share yet but we'll be sure to update our community with details as soon as we can.
I do not understand why the company would launch these apps without the pump users in mind. Everyone who owns a pump is che king them or being notified to check them daily. It is better knowing, but taking the oump off the belt is inconvenient in many situations, not to mention that it changes whtever conversation that was happening to one regarding the pump. It would be nice to also monitor from my Android device.
We hear you and we are working on remote monitoring for our pump users. The MiniMed 670G system was approved faster than anticipated and the Bluetooth program timeline couldn’t be accelerated fast enough. We are committed to seeing this feature through for our those using our pumps and hope you stay tuned for updates.
Sugar IQ for android smartphones ?
The Sugar.IQ app and the Guardian Connect app have been developed separately. With this app update, the Guardian Connect app has gained Android device compatibility. The Sugar.IQ app has not been updated and is only available on iOS. We are working on making updates to the Sugar.IQ app, however, we don’t have a timeline to share. We’ll make sure to keep our community updated.
I take oral meds can I use the divce
Hi, William. Yes, our Guardian Connect is approved for use by those on oral medications. To explore your options, please give our teammates a call at 800.646.4633, option 3.
Dear Sofia,
Can you Please explain WHY Guardian GCM is HACKING into my cellphone to monitor my vital statistics when I have never done business with Medtronics? It appears that Peking University is conducting sick "human experiments" on Diabetics and other populations in which spyware is being deployed through Cloud servers.
Please REMOVE my device and all electronic information illegally obtained from my devices. I'm not a Diabetic and I never contacted your organization so Medtronic's survellence is in violation of Privacy Protection Laws in Accordance with UN treaties.
I expect this matter will be resolved within 72 hours.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Dearinger

Hi, Kathleen. I'm sorry for any confusion. Our Guardian Connect app is unable to access your smartphone data. In order to have any access to your settings, it would require a Guardian Connect CGM device, along with a Medtronic account. If you have concerns, please give our technical support team a call at 800.646.4633, option 1. They would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Is this covered by medicaid it would be very helpful to me
Allison, Medicaid coverage varies by state, but many plans do allow for CGM coverage. To explore your options, please give our therapy specialists a call at 800.646.4633, option 3.
I have been hearing murmurings of a new XXX Insulin Pump coming out in November of 2020, which is to include expanded android connectivity by the end of July 2020.
Does this connectivity include Motorola products (for the Guardian 3/670G), or is application primarily favoring Apple phones once again (which is no longer the majority for most people)?
I have been disappointed by the lack of android application options for my phone (which were supposed to be quite some time ago, per my representative). "It will be out in 6 months," has now been more than a couple years.
I would really like some more solid guarantees on the next version of Medtronic Pumps & the Guardian 3 Android connectivity to be relayed to me for the next model. I am currently using the 670G/Guardian 3 Sensor and want to know what (and when) I can look forward to these advancements (in the XXXX).
The information that I requested from my representative seem to be "loose" promises. Obviously, diabetes is hard enough to deal with without working with undue misinformation. I look forward to your response. Thank you in advance.
Hi, Todd. Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, due to FDA guidelines, we're unable to share information, including timelines for unapproved products. We understand how important it is to make innovative products that make diabetes management easier. We look forward to sharing updates with our community as they become available and hope you'll stay tuned.
I take Insulin every day and sliding scale three or four times a day.
I am a Medicare patient and want to try your CGM, as I have the 630G pump.
Two questions: 1) does it last 10 days?
2)Is it covered yet by Medicare, as I now have XXXXXX but love the Medtronic pump, it was my first and I love it, don't want to switch.Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi, Linda. Our Guardian Link 3 transmitter (not the Guardian Connect) is compatible with our MiniMed 630G system. Our Guardian Sensor 3 sensors are approved for up to 7 days of wear. Currently, Medicare does not cover our CGM products, but we are working with them and the FDA on updated labeling to ensure broader access to our products.
Hello
I am a guardian connect user with a samsung galaxy S10 mobile phone. The system works very very well and I am very satisfied. I also have a samsung galaxy watch, on which I can only display warnings (high, low blood sugar). It would be good if I could also see the blood sugar value on the watch. Are you doing anything in that direction?
We appreciate the feedback, Bojan. We've heard input like yours and have shared this with our development team and hope you stay tuned for updates.
Sucks we pay all this money to use Medtronic as OUR choice for insulin pump therapy and be punished to have the most updated pump and transmitter available and still cannot have the newest updates applied to be used...
